APRIL 28, 2010
With its incredible growth (200 million to 400 million users in the last 12 months), and announcement at its April 21 F8 developer conference of new capabilities, Facebook seems to have become, as Chris O’Brien of the San Jose Mercury News says, “the most important company on the Web.”. Should you pull all of your advertising dollars out of Facebook? On the eve of Facebook 's historical initial public offering, automotive manufacturer, GM , made a big public stink about pulling ten million dollars of media spend out of Facebook because they felt that Facebook advertising doesn't work (more on that here: Advertising Age - GM Cuts Facebook Ad Spending, But Ford Steps on the Gas ). Is Twitter Or Facebook More Influential In The SERPs?
Small Business Mavericks
JUNE 28, 2011
Next year, what will effect (sic) SERP’s (sic) more, Twitter or Facebook? As Rand points out, Google and Facebook aren’t exactly friends. In fact, Google has decided not to use popular Facebook indicators in its search algorithms, which means that Facebook does not really affect Google’s SERPs. However, Bing and Facebook have a much more friendly relationship. Bing’s SERPs are social to an extent that you can Like them and Share them easily on Facebook. And Bing does use Facebook indicators for ranking purposes.
Is Google+ About To Make Facebook Frown?
JANUARY 17, 2012
Back in July, I Blogged about Google 's foray into online social networking, Google+ (more here: Co-dependency In The Age of Facebook ). Why Publishers Need to Walk Away From Facebook
JULY 25, 2016
In late June, Facebook once again announced a News Feed algorithm change —this time to focus more on friends and family content, and less on brands and publishers —a change that’s not all that surprising since Facebook is organized around who you know. This modification, however, is making huge waves in the publishing world, since publishers and content houses have relied on Facebook as an effective way to get in front of consumers. But publishers are not quite in as dire straits as it may appear, even with this seeming abandonment of Facebook. percent on Facebook.

The Future Of Facebook And The Newsfeed
MARCH 7, 2013
Do you remember Facebook before the timeline. I loved the introduction of Facebook's news feed when it happened. Many were up in arms and many thought that Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg , was going to destroy the power and potential of the online social network. While many think that photos are the killer app of Facebook (and the reason the company paid a billion dollars to acquire Instagram ), none of that would matter had Facebook not had the insight (and the courage) to imagine, develop and deploy this personal RSS feed of our social graph.
Facebook’s New Timeline
SEPTEMBER 24, 2011
This time the changes at Facebook are really big. Good thing we’ve all got broadband these days isn’t it or it would take forever to load Facebook’s Timeline. It's going to be a really tough battle for Google to get passed this without any sort of 2-way friend relationship like Facebook if they want a mass audience. Facebook's API is one of the most accessible APIs I've come across.

Facebook Should Not Be Treated like Other Media
MAY 29, 2012
What is Facebook ? If you ask a nerd like me, you'll probably hear the words "online social network" or "social media channel" bandied around. We're looking for the business of Facebook. What does Facebook sell? we wind up in one place: Facebook is a media company. Is that how the c-level suite of Facebook would define themselves? If Facebook is a media company, we then have to ask ourselves: what kind of media channel does Facebook provide and how does it compare to those other media channels? facebook.

Google+ Just Beat Facebook to the Future
Stay N' Alive
JUNE 28, 2011
Facebook's entire purpose has been to get to this moment. They've already been rumored to be working on a much stronger mobile strategy, bringing Facebook's powerful platform to the apps you use on the mobile devices you carry, to every place you go. It's that which has had Google scared and hinging employee bonuses on the success of their social program this year. However, it seems in one fell swoop Google just beat Facebook to their own game. Google+ is that good, and it immediately puts them ahead of Facebook. Facebook Should be Shaking in Their Boots.
Google is Not Facebook (and Vice Versa)

Google seems to be trying of late to do everything they can to be like Facebook. They've released an equivalent to Facebook's "like" button. They seem to really want to be on top of social search, but I can help but think, "why?" Let's "face" it - Google is not social. When I want something my close friends and family to see, I go to Facebook, or I send them an email.
Is it That Easy?
DECEMBER 20, 2010
Last week I wrote that for a company to successfully integrate social media with their PR activities they have to listen, learn and respond. Building social graphs has not been part of our PR practice. They need to develop an easy-to-use vocabulary set for understanding data mining and social graphs and communicating about it. HughesPR asked if it is that simple.

LoveFilm: Facebook traffic’s increased 300% with Facebook social graph
MAY 19, 2010
Fascinating stats from NMA today , revealing the potential impact of Facebook social graph for brands, businesses and publishers: LoveFilm said it had increased traffic from Facebook by 300% and had seen thousands of users ‘like’ movie and actor pages. In fact for me, the most amazing thing is that Facebook hadn’t implemented something like this sooner. Brands that see integration like this as a shortcut to social media nirvana will be sadly disappointed. social media facebook lovefilm nma open graphTweet. Tweet.
Co-dependency In The Age of Facebook
JULY 5, 2011
It's hard to imagine that there is a Facebook killer somewhere around the next tech innovation, but there probably is. It just seemed so much easier and simpler than the more complex neediness of Facebook. What we've learned in the online social networking world of Facebook and Twitter is that there is more co-dependency between the two platforms than walled gardens that users are not allowed to cross. The truth is that it's hard to beat Facebook at this point. Yes, many people (and some governments) still have a bug about Facebook and their privacy settings.
