The Future of Meta Ads Targeting

Jon Loomer

In a previous post, I discussed how you should approach Meta ads targeting now. Things have changed quite a bit, and it’s important that you evolve with those changes. But, what does the future of Meta ads targeting look like? I don’t have a crystal ball. These are all predictions. But, if you’ve been paying attention during the past few years, you’ll likely agree that these predictions are reasonable, if not likely.

Direct Marketing Observations

I have a difficult job. Not like it threatens my life or heaven forbid, it involves manual labor, but aspects of it can certainly be a drag on my psyche, my energy, and my hope for humanity. At the very least, over the last seven years, my job has gotten progressively more challenging; and maybe challenging is a kinder more diplomatic word but suffice it to say, it has become at times, quite vexing.

Lighting Setup for Short-Form Video

Jon Loomer

Here’s how I set up my lighting for video recording… 1. I use two Neewer 90 Watt LED lights that are mounted to each side of my desk. You can adjust the brightness and warmth for each light using a remote. 2. I have a small, 12 x 11 office space, which may be why these lights are a bit too bright, even on the lowest brightness setting. To counter that, I adjust the exposure in my recording settings.

Facebook Removes Rooms from Groups

Jon Loomer

Facebook is removing Rooms from Groups. We received the following message when starting a Room in my private Facebook group: “Rooms in groups will be removed on November 16. Starting November 10, new group rooms can’t be created. Following 30 days of no activity in a group room, any data you have related to the room will be deleted.” If you aren’t familiar with Rooms, they’re basically like a Zoom meeting with multiple people on Facebook.

Meta Removing Manual Placements?

Jon Loomer

This is intentionally bad design… Meta is burying manual placements, and it’s not clear if this is a test or the rollout of an official change. In this version, the Placements section of your ad set appears to be locked in. If you click “Show more options,” you can click to edit Placement Controls and then be able to remove Audience Network and Messenger Stories placements (but no other placements).

I Don’t Batch My Videos

Jon Loomer

I don’t technically batch my videos… I’m often asked about my routine for recording and editing. The assumption is that I batch them. In other words, I set aside a specific day to record a bunch at once. That doesn’t work for me. I don’t set a specific day and time to record because I need flexibility. I tried batching in the beginning, but I found that I often struggled to generate the ideas and scripts for that day.

Video Quality on an iPhone

Jon Loomer

Here’s how I maximize video quality on an iPhone… 1. I have an iPhone 14 Pro, and I record using the rear-facing camera. I mirror my phone to my iPad so that I can center myself before recording. 2. I record in Cinematic mode, which adds that fuzziness to the background. 3. My lighting tends to be a bit bright, so I bring down the exposure. I use -1.0, but find what works for your lighting setup.

11 Extremely useful things to do with AI Marketing Tools

Razor Social

At this stage I think most tool providers have added the word ‘AI’ onto their website. Even if they haven’t fully embraced AI the market demands that they demonstrate that AI is a core part of their offering going forward. Say it and they will come… then build it after you say it! But I’m not being fair to everyone because some tool providers have moved quickly to integrate AI as part of their offering and some are built with AI In mind from the ground up.
