The Irony: MySpace Okay, so in my previous paragraph, I mention that you should be an early adopter of social networks. However, I joined MySpace in 2006 to network with individuals who refused to use Facebook and to return to my liberal ways of accepting a lot more friend requests than I normally would.

Here’s the real Facebook, long before I joined the social network myself: Truthfully, it doesn’t matter who invented Facebook. Facebook is like MySpace. And these three social networks, which were based on very similar concepts, predated the Facebook that we know and love today. Facebook is like Classmates.com.

I’m taking two seminar courses at school this term, and they each resemble a particular form of social media. We pause for 10 minutes, and when we return, the class asks questions or makes comments, to which Professor Jutras responds. Then the comments come in, and a conversation takes place. I see this seminar as a blog.

In November 2008, during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, Epic Change leveraged Twitter to raise money ($10,000 goal) to help build a classroom in Tanzania. Stacey says that there’s a lot more to the growth of Epic Change and she thanks social media for the opportunities afforded to the organization’s great strides.
