Unloads Delicious Yesterday, the Internet’s largest has been – Yahoo! So I suppose they had the money to buy the struggling social bookmarking website. Delicious is one of the early forerunners of social bookmarking. And it might have had it not been purchased by Yahoo! A quick check has shown that I’ve been using Delicious since November 2006 , although my addiction to Google Reader means I’ve never used social bookmarking as heavily as some friends and colleagues. I’ve never really built huge networks on social bookmarking sites (50 on delicious, 8 on diggo), compared with social networks (3.5k on Twitter, 500+ on FB), and perhaps the mix of bookmarketing and social networking will change that in this case.

The latest is around the social bookmarking site Delicious. Yahoo had originally said it was going to fold the site, but then the groans started. Nevertheless, if it’s true, it could be a big boon to Yahoo. And if you use Delicious, then you won’t have to export your bookmarks to someplace else. I think it has been a major contributor to the social landscape for more than a few good years. If it’s anyone with half the clout that Yahoo!

I’m celebrating the marriage of Delicious , the incredibly useful and powerful social bookmarking service which was neglected since acquisition by Yahoo, with new owners AVOS, which despite sounding like a major shopping website, is actually the new company from Youtube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. Hurley and Chen have a lot of experience in social information sharing – that’s essentially what Youtube is.

Yahoo has decided to sunset some of its services, and that includes social bookmarking site Delicious. For bookmarks in particular, Xmarks actually allows you to sync and back up your bookmarks across a number of browsers. But before you panic about Delicious, it looks like there may be a future for them after all - just not at Yahoo. In their own blog, Delicious states that they will in fact remain open for business - just not with Yahoo.

Yahoo is killing off Delicious , the social bookmarking service that I've used since 2005. First priority is saving all the bookmarks. At least I don't have to worry about losing the bookmarks entirely. Google Bookmarks. Would revenue make a difference to Yahoo? Note to self: Figure out which other Yahoo properties I use. This is inconvenient. I don't need to spend my time rebuilding stuff that already works.

Great news for Delicious users: the service has been acquired from Yahoo! As you may recall, in December I reported that Yahoo! was sunsetting Delicious , the social bookmarking service, surprising many people and leaving them in a tenuous position. Why has Yahoo! How do I transfer my bookmarks? To transfer your bookmarks, you need to "opt-in" to allow your account and all associated data to be moved.

That in itself didn’t sent much traffic but when that particular Yahoo blog’s post was featured on the front page of Yahoo for 4-5 hours one day I saw traffic hit my blog like I’ve never seen traffic before or since.

In the past, if you found something of interest (or something that was really, really cool), you would need to switch over to a bookmarking site like Digg , or StumbleUpon in order to share your findings with others. Of course, many already have the bookmarking features built into a downloadable toolbar which they can easily access in their web browser. The only catch is, internet users would have to be on their own computer in order to access the bookmarking friendly toolbars.

That makes Yahoo look kind in the way they’ve ended or sold services. Those are people who consistently find things which are important to know about, and I enjoy being able to find out when they’ve just read them – not see a jumble of items which might be new, old, or social items like holiday images etc which are being put on Google+ weeks or months after they’ve happened.
