If you are currently using Feedburner for your RSS feeds, you may have noticed – as we did – that your blog feed is totally dead. If your Feedburner feed is not working anymore, you’re not alone and you basically have two choices – switch to your blog platform’s atom feed for free (no analytics), or switch to the best alternative, Feedblitz for a small fee.

After nearly four years of powering this blog’s email and RSS delivery options, I’ve parted ways with Google and its free Feedburner service and embraced the paid service of Feedblitz. I migrated my clients from Feedburner some time ago because the service was getting a little sketchy. I had a little over 10,000 subscribers and yesterday Feedburner was reporting that at a big fat 0. Feedburner’s support has gone *poof*. It’s particularly worrying in some areas, where companies of the size and scale of Google have effectively closed out the market, particularly in terms of RSS syndication with Feedburner and RSS reading with Google Reader. And now there’s some worrying signs about Feedburner, spotted by good friend Julius Solaris , who runs the Event Manager Blog. What’s happening to Feedburner? But also the @Feedburner Twitter account is being closed from today as well. The Feedburner API was already deprecated and is due to close in October, 2012. Buffer.

This week, Google unveiled an upgraded Feedburner stats package that provides real-time data on clicks, views, and podcast downloads. For the social media fanatics, the Feedburner team add that, “if you use the FeedBurner Socialize service, and your platform uses PubSubHubbub or you ping us when you post, you can for the first time get stats on how much traffic your feed items are receiving from Twitter, as well as feed reading platforms like Google Reader in one place..
