The tool that’s making the most rounds these days, it seems to me, is Klout. There have been blog posts ad nauseam by online influencers (and I don’t mean to use that term in a belittling way, so please don’t anyone take it that way) on online tools such as Klout. Now, I have no axe to grind with Klout.

I’ll admit that it’s fun to bash Klout. I have the belief that, despite what Klout says, it ties a large part of how “influential” you are directly to how much you tweet. That’s my Klout score over the past several weeks. This is the main reason I just can’t take Klout incredibly seriously.
I cannot believe how much drama there is around Klout’s most recent changes. You see, Klout had decided I was (am) influential on bacon. Our guest last week was Klout’s Megan Berry , who returned for an encore performance to #measurepr since, you know, everyone’s krazy about Klout. And given how kontroversial Klout is, what better guest to address their questions? How do you decide who gets Klout perks? Here’s a sample of the chat: 1.
I can’t stand Klout. Anyone who discusses social media with me usually has to sit through one (or more) of my diatribes about how ridiculous Klout is, why it doesn’t measure social media influence, and why relying on the score is one of the most annoying noob habits of social media. Okay…I’ll confess.
A few weeks ago I noticed that Klout had added the WordPress button to the available channels to connect to which was encouraging. But to not include and factor self hosted blogs is a serious miss on Klout’s part. Apparently not based on this support thread on Klout’s own site. But not so fast.

So I went on a blog hiatus for a few weeks, and it certainly made a significant impact on my Klout score. I certainly don’t lose any sleep over my Klout score. Many businesses are using Klout as a measuring stick for influence and not just for their perks program. I’m not entirely sure what I think about that.
The August 21 #MeasurePR chat was a fun and lively discussion about a few topics of interest to measurement geeks—including the notorious topic we love to pick apart: Klout. Here are some highlights: Klout has recently made changes to its algorithm, many of which appear to be in response to (heavy) criticism of the “influence” tool.
Klout just keeps getting better. Among the services that Klout now tracks are: Tumblr – A blogging platform somewhat like a cross between Twitter and Blogger.
