When people ask this question, what they mean is, does sharing a web page in your social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, etc., Many marketers believe this to be the case, and correlation studies like like this one from Searchmetrics , or or this from one Moz, encourage that belief.

Write an article, publish a study, do some research that no one else in your industry is going to do. A PPC ad is great, but also Twitter and Facebook ads will help really well. Links in all the content are typically nofollowed and comply with all FTC and Google Webmaster Guidelines. Alternative One: Paid Media.

Getting your name out there is incredibly important — studies suggest that people need to hear a company’s name at least seven times before they trust and respect it enough to become a customer. You can also benefit from posting to bookmarking sites that use NOFOLLOW tags if people read your posts and link back to your Web site.

Microsoft signed deals with both Twitter and Facebook to incorporate tweets and status updates into Bing. Microsoft recently expanded the arrangement with Facebook, making Bing its default search engine. Google signed a deal with Twitter that will add tweets to search results. Moz conducted a study in the same year and found that pages with activity from Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and general comments tend to rank higher. Even though social media links are nofollow, you’ll still get a bit of authority and you’ll be sharing your name with potential new customers across multiple social media platforms.
