You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie.

Attractionhowto.com is a really terrible website and doesn’t even have the six pages I counted unless you include their RSS feed. My feed jumped from 8,500 to over 11,500 according to Feedburner. I promise there are more non-readers than readers who would never want to read content this long.

First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. With those fundamentals alone you can go very far.

A site’s authority may rapidly rise and fall depending on what the blogosphere is discussing at the moment, and how often a site produces content being referenced by other sites. The audience of politics and web news blogs are far more likely to link to content they enjoy, rather than the readers of gossip blogs.
