To be fair, I’ve only included those I’ve actually used (Radian6, Sysomos, Spiral 16) or tested (Meltwater, SM2). You can also set up various searches from Google, Twitter, etc and run the RSS feeds from each search through Yahoo Pipes and have the resulting feed delivered to your inbox or RSS reader to monitor ongoing.

I think the thing that struck me as particularly worthwhile talking about today was the deal with Radian6 / Salesforce and Twitter to give them real time firehose access to the Twitter tweets API , which as far as I know Twitter has never done that, has never given an individual vendor access at that level.

If you can afford it, buy professional listening tools, like Radian6 or others in that category. Use Google Reader to store your ego searches. Be sure to stay aware of those.
