Every time I tell someone I’m a Community Manager , I get a varied response. &# That last one might be the most honest of the three, since asking a Community Manager whether they tweet for a living is like asking a construction worker if they cat-call for a living, or a doctor if he asks people to say “ah!&# for a living.

Twitter went about this in the right way and it’s opened up a host of new applications, tools, and scripts. The main thing that seems missing from Plurk is the community and visibility a lot of other sites have attracted. I’d never heard of it before stumbling onto it while, of course, searching something else.

Don’t shy away from giving your community the information needed to find you elsewhere both online and offline. Let it be posted on every social platform of choice and then watch as it seeds through other communities (which is likely to happen and shows that your marketing is viral). Buy something, get something.

Many of them (more than half) were individuals I met at search conferences, but other conferences (SXSW, events that Mashable was involved in in the capacity of host or media sponsor, and the first IZEAFest) also represented my Industry connections. And then of course, retain my personal page for family and non-business friends.
