Create a spreadsheet to document the submission process, with fields that include: directory URL, Category submitted, URL submitted, date of submission, title/anchor text submitted, status.

You’d be surprised at how many existing links (both internal and external) may be pointing to incorrect or discontinued URLs. A good way to investigate this is to review the Crawl Errors report in Google Webmaster Tools, which shows URLs with 404, 500 and other errors that Google encountered while crawling the site.

Check by going to the following URL, and replace domain.com with the website’s domain. Links can do this regardless of whether or not they contain the “nofollow” attribute, contain redirects, come from a site with a high PageRank , and so on. When it comes to leaving links, leave behind our blog’s URL in the website field.

So, if a result for personal development was johndoe.com/personal-development, that would be my URL, but “johndoe.com&# would be after -site: Run this 5 step process for all of your keyphrases and you should have a good idea of how many backlinks it will take to rank for them.
