What Google doesn’t want is for those links to have SEO value, which is why their guidelines dictate that paid links are coded in a way that they will not pass PageRank. Previously, sponsored links in JavaScript such as those in the example above could not be read by crawlers and thus were in compliance with Google’s guidelines.

A PPC ad is great, but also Twitter and Facebook ads will help really well. Links in all the content are typically nofollowed and comply with all FTC and Google Webmaster Guidelines. Or, just give it all away for free, and let the publicity from it naturally garner you fresh, natural, organic links to your website.

As I covered in SEO Guidelines for Sponsored Content and Partner Links , there are SEO implications to be aware of. Since Outbrain links are paid links, its modules comply with search engine guidelines and do not pass SEO value (a good thing as this protects the participating publishers). So it is a vehicle for link development too.

You’ll first want to review the content snippet to make sure it is a good quality (see the guest posting guidelines set by PostJoint ) and the right fit for your blog audience. Earlier this year, Google took down major blogging networks as a part of link building schemes against their (new and improved) Webmaster Guidelines.

Every web portal has to abide by Google’s webmaster guidelines to reach amongst the top ranking in search engine results. Avoid posting links on random or affiliated websites rather nofollow the link or remove them. Google and various other search engines have laid down strict guidelines to avoid Link network tactics.

Bloggers who are compensated can use the “nofollow&# tag within their outbound links to keep those links from being tagged by Google as paid content. The nofollow may well make that harder, but then again, if you are under contract I think it’s the buyer’s responsibility to track the postings of the paid blogger.
