I think one reason is because they don’t fully understand the depth and breadth of usefulness Twitter can offer. You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie. No problem.
