Most of the growth did not just come from StumbleUpon but there was a huge increase in search engine traffic as well. Although the site received more traffic than last month, a lot of it was from sources like StumbleUpon which doesn’t convert very well, so the ratio of traffic to subscribers doesn’t really match up.

When starting a blog, for example, you could view it as a project that is going to see you writing 4 posts per week, utilising services like Twitter and StumbleUpon regularly, and tweaking your design until you’re happy with it. Writing 4 posts per week sounds like a lot. Building a house sounds like a lot. Not the point in itself.

First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. This isn’t just some coincidence.

I would rather have 1,000 loyal readers coming to my site on a daily basis than 100,000 visits from StumbleUpon every day with a 95% bounce rate. Keep up the great work mate… Cheers!

Leave Blog Comments Most blog comments are nofollowed (this means search engines aren’t supposed to give weight to the link, though I believe Yahoo and Bing still do) so they don’t provide much link juice directly.
