What Google doesn’t want is for those links to have SEO value, which is why their guidelines dictate that paid links are coded in a way that they will not pass PageRank. Previously, sponsored links in JavaScript such as those in the example above could not be read by crawlers and thus were in compliance with Google’s guidelines.

But when SEO companies start to abuse any link building tactic, you need a preventative plan in place because an update from Google will be coming. If I linked the words “Minneapolis SEO Company” to my homepage, that is unnatural. An editor of CNN.com wouldn’t link to a company talked about that way. What is unnatural linking?

Bloggers who are compensated can use the “nofollow&# tag within their outbound links to keep those links from being tagged by Google as paid content. The nofollow may well make that harder, but then again, if you are under contract I think it’s the buyer’s responsibility to track the postings of the paid blogger.

I use networking as a very broad term which chould include creating connections with bloggers, finding companies who can help you to get your offering out there and utilising other areas of social media to get eyeballs on your creation. I like the tip to rank for both short and long keywords, I have never thought of that. This is gold.
