First, I’m going to say kudos to Apple for trying involve themselves in the world of social media. Let’s envision this scenario: a user has a support issue about an Apple product. Apple has no such protocol in place, and at this point, there is no engagement. I’m going to stop there, though.

Most people commonly try to target a huge audience with their Facebook ad campaigns where as many people have found the best strategy is to lots of ads, each targeting a tiny sub-section of users. You don’t need to see the Apple logo or even an iPod to have a good idea what those white earphones are plugged into.

In fact, in a test a colleague of mine ran with sponsored advertisements, the incentive-based campaign was much more successful than the original information-only campaign. And unfortunately, social media is at fault for breeding this mentality and causing it to spread. Can you get much actionable information out of it?
