I didn’t know him, and hadn’t worked with his (large) company. He was looking for a social media vendor, and was referred to me by a mutual contact who had attended one of my training workshops. In that workshop, we discussed social media ROI realities. I had an interesting phone call with a prospective client.

This year we gathered nearly 100 project suggestions ranging from product ideas for Sprout and Bambu, to a new approach to company-wide community service , to ways to make our office and events even more fun. Teams were assigned locations throughout the new digs to set-up poster boards, present slide decks, even hold workshops.

You’ll need to be able to edit posts for clients and create mockups to illustrate your proposals. Once you land the client, you’ll often present proposals to them as part of your consulting work. That means doing social media marketing for clients or companies, not just your pet’s Instagram account.

Then see who offers workshops in your area. Your goal offline should be the same as your goal online: to be as helpful and useful as possible in whatever partnership idea you propose.
