The Weight Watchers site features a Community section with message boards for support, etc. The astronomical price makes sense; the Super Bowl is one of the few television events that people watch completely live, which means no fast-forwarding through commercials on the DVR. Holy Social!

In the team’s defense, they do have a nicely executed Events tab, and the Wall seems to be pretty active, with a variety of contests for fans. It’s a good mix of coach-speak, highlights, community service footage, and cheerleader features. They need to snap up that Facebook name pronto. So, I peeked at YouTube.

Here’s a good example of a PR professional (Todd Defren) who discloses when he is Twittering on behalf of a client. She didn’t last long, as the community questioned her extreme statements and Jeremiah Owyang (a Forrester Analyst) contacted Exxon directly for comment. (I There’s an example here.

A good example of a business that’s pulling this off is Shopify, as this post demonstrates. In this study, they analyzed events as they spread through Twitter, in an effort to understand how and why topics start trending on the platform. They looked at roughly one billion events as they cascaded through Twitter.
