Well, for one, social media users — that is, users on social news sites such as Digg, Mixx, Reddit — are not particularly enthusiastic about the proliferation of marketers in their community. This is a huge challenge for someone who wants to sell their product using social media. You market, by not marketing.

Whereas before when computers were only found in banks and offices, media snackers have access at home, in school, or in libraries — all for free. Previously, to have a mobile phone, you needed a large bank account. Everything is multi: multi-screens, multi-channeled, multi-conversations, and multitasking.

A good company leader would actually recognize that a social news network implies that there are participants involved and that the users are the most important part of the service. It seems that ever since Digg hired a bank to look for a sale, they forgot about answering the support emails. They forgot about the community.
