You actually need to involve yourself in the blog’s community, commenting and showing that at the minimum, you have a long term invested interest in the blog’s success, and not only when it’s beneficial for you. Social media is all about community, and that community exists whether you need them or not.

After using both Plurk and Twitter pretty heavily, I’ve come to the conclusion that Plurk is best at its features for community-building, whereas Twitter succeeds more with its interface that bolsters information-sharing. After all, the full disclosure is that I am the community and marketing director of Mashable.

Curation for community building, I suppose. We like them a lot. Recap or reporting - say, of a conference or event. Showcasing, spotlighting – I’m not sure what to call this but I’m thinking of when you might showcase content from your members. …anything else you can think of?

These scenarios come to fruition in spontaneous communities, on social networks, and other self-service tools – all thanks to the availability of low cost technology and access to the world wide web.
