Well, as my recent blog posts have shown, I don’t follow the Google guidelines like I used to. If you don’t read the rest of this very long post then let me summarise it as this: Google is failing to enforce their guidelines on a huge scale, especially when it comes to big brands. Another good example are RetailMeNot.

To state it most simply, a style guide is where you put into writing the guidelines for how you want your blog to be written and presented. Other areas of inconsistency, capitalization of words in headlines, for example, and I see this all the time. For example, when I write ProBlogger, I capitalize P and B, ProBlogger.

For example, it’s far better to have links to your site with ‘ Personal Development ‘ as the anchor text, rather than something like ‘Glen’s web site’ I knew I could get a lot of links with my desired anchor text so decided to go for it. My guess, is quite a lot. Something you actually know about?

As an example, a site ranking 2nd for me right now is a page on Wilson Web. Digg lets you find news that you know hundreds of other people recommend.
