The higher return from the channel for the marketer the higher price the publisher receives and the more likely repeat business. Several weeks ago I wrote that social media is not new. only partially called out the pony, rainbow and unicorn practitioner’s though. ve been ‘doing the Twitter’ for years now and social media gurus there is what teenage girls once were to Myspace. Worse, these gurus claim to be offering professional services. If I had my say they would all be trampled by elephants. Ponies, Rainbows and Unicorns. Ask them what they do. There is researched little data on ‘Social Media’ because the smart consultants realize how this slots into a bigger Marketing picture and are busy applying it as one tool. All of my clients who have a social marketing module (notice how I dropped the ‘media’?) The best social marketers get relationships offline as quick as they can. That is my target market and who I write for. Engage. Form Relationships. Share content. Social is the new currency. Social Media is the answer. m sick of hearing it. This is not new information. | ALEX BLOM DECEMBER 28, 2010 Value Driven Relationships (Coupons & Search) Search marketers buy keywords for fencing classes within his city and promote their company to him, knowing that User X could very quickly become a long term customer (because Google are in the business of selling business relationships, as Cross points out). ALEX BLOM | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2011 Asking Why, and basic channel planning There is nothing wrong with experimentation, but as we enter a maturity stage of web marketing, it is important to clearly define the ‘why’. If your target market is not already on Facebook don’t try and drag them there. We need to sit down and define how we will funnel our target market into each channel. The problem with technology, and social sites in general, is they are easy, cheap and fast to set up. There is a growing trend to create presences for the sake of a presence, and quite often these channels are created with ill-defined goals. How will you find new users? MORE >> -

The higher return from the channel for the marketer the higher price the publisher receives and the more likely repeat business. Marketers win with higher conversion, Publishers win with higher prices. Disclosure: I still don’t see this as being an easy out for incompetent marketers. My background is studying marketing. My case saying that ads are not working is not in terms of publisher revenues but marketers conversion. The marketer converts. Ad rates are declining! MORE >> -
