Hey Sports Teams Quit Telling Me to LIKE your Facebook Posts

Sports teams are among the biggest offenders: Now don’t get me wrong. Brands of all shapes and sizes do it, but as I mainly follow news organizations and sports teams on Facebook it is the teams that negatively caught my attention. The counterpoint is that most of these posts are getting a lot of likes, comments and shares. Here are some more recent examples.

Death of Muhammad Ali Shakes Up Facebook, Twitter World

The death of former heavyweight boxing champion and cultural icon Muhammad Ali last Friday jolted the sports world, along with Facebook and Twitter. Facebook said in a blog post by Evan Shugerman , who works on sports partnerships for the social network and Instagram, and data scientist Dustin Cable that in the first 24 hours after Ali’s death, 48 million users were responsible for more than 110 interactions (posts, comments, likes, shares) on Facebook. According to Shugerman and Cable, the countries with the most Ali-related conversations during that period were: U.S.
