As a result, a lingering question emerges on how much spikes in social media activity represent normal sentiment of interested individuals vs. manipulated sentiment of a few that is then spread around virally, possibly taking a life of its own. Most engaging content on August 15th around rain in NYC as rated by Radian6 Analytics.

Sentiment: How much are you willing to automate verse check by hand? To be fair, I’ve only included those I’ve actually used (Radian6, Sysomos, Spiral 16) or tested (Meltwater, SM2). And of course thanks for including Radian6. And of course thanks for including Radian6. In other words, how accurate does it need to be?

If you can afford it, buy professional listening tools, like Radian6 or others in that category. Track things like audience/community sentiment (positive/negative) if you want to map effort to results. Use social networks respectfully to share the best of your content, in a community-appropriate setting. It comes back.
