Niche research is a little like viewing your website analytics where it’s really pointless checking your stats if they don’t lead to you making any site changes. Basically it lets you see which websites use the same hosting company, have the same IP addresses and use the same Google Analytics and Google Adsense tracking codes.

Now, bloggers have access to trending analytics data so they can predict which hot topics they should be writing about next. Andrew Phelps over at Nieman Lab decided to do some research into how this affected their traffic levels, since Gawker publicly show analytics figures for each post. posts per writer per day.
