What is your Reach on Facebook? (Any why you shouldn’t care)

Janet Fouts

A client contacted me this morning, upset because her “reach” seems to be seriously declining on Facebook. For some reason Facebook chooses Reach to be the metric graphed on the insights page, and it’s little understood, so here’s the long and the short of it. 3 Reasons Your Facebook Page Seems to Suck Right Now

Janet Fouts

Last week on The Friday Hangout (video) we talked a bit about how many Facebook page managers are reporting dramatically decreasing reach in Facebook Insights and a drop in fans as well. What Twitter’s Rate Limit Changes Mean to You

Janet Fouts

Twitter recently announced new rate limits on how many “hits” to the API it will allow. Now before your eyes glaze over wondering what that means, let me put it into English. When an application like Hootsuite, Tweetdeck or a mobile Twitter app like Tweetbot checks your account on Twitter, it’s what is called an “API Call” This does NOT include the number of messages you send through these tools, only the number of times the tool hits the Twitter server to check for

Would you give up your passwords for a job?

Janet Fouts

A recent AP Newswire story tells the tale of one Justin Bassett who was asked by a hiring manager for his user name on Facebook. When she opened the site and saw that his profile was private, she asked him for his password. Bassett refused and withdrew his application, stating that he didn’t want to work for a company that would ask for such personal information.
