Unfortunately, the site’s spike in popularity in 2003 caught the company by surprise. Myspace: “A place for friends” (2003) Friendster rival Myspace (originally styled as MySpace) quickly became the go-to site for millions of hip teens. Periscope became the go-to app for streaming and watching live events.

Location, Location, Location The biggest story of the event was the widespread usage of presence services foursquare and Gowalla. I’ll write about that soon.
