    [Social Media] Correlation/Causality Confusion
As the social media space slowly matures, we’re starting to see more and more reports released by companies offering insight into the ebbs and flows of peoples’ behaviour online. Not surprisingly, these reports are pretty popular – they possess two desirable attributes: They offer easy-to-digest, soundbite-sized nuggets of information – perfect for short-form media such as Twitter. They offer the potential for increased understanding of the latest trends. What does this mean? So, if there is a correlation between A and B: A could cause B.

[Social Media] When Humor Isn't Funny
When a brand or a cause attempts to use humor - especially in the age of social media, where information, rumors and outrage fly fast and furious - it has to be used carefully. Often times, we use humor to find common ground. An observational comic can take the everyday mundane things and makes make them seem funny with a unique spin. Or slapstick teams use physical gaffes to go for the primeval notion that when someone else gets hurt, we laugh. Comedy on the heels of tragedy helps forge a bond for those who have suffered together, in an effort to pull them through. Not so much.

It isn’t and if you use social media with your institutional thinking for both you lose. That isn’t what the human network refers to “being social”  However most marketing efforts reflect a “get and keep them” sentiment and that is how buyers feel and talk about your marketing efforts. The language that comes with marketing, especially in terms of all things social, has evolved into something that sounds like a droid trolling for “friends” rather than a human engaging with sincere intent. [Social Media] Forget Indexing Tweets: Google Is Pulling Them Directly from the API
When Google rolled out with Caffeine last year, the idea was to speed up the way that the search engine was able to index pages, particularly for use in real-time social media searches. It’s a cool feature, but it’s just an addition to what they’ve already been saying for a couple of years (and proclaiming more openly in December) about how social signals are playing a roll in their algorithm. Apparently, that wasn’t fast enough, so they’re going straight to the source. We just ran a test of our own (above). What does this mean? Not much.

There's no question that if you create good content - both on and off of Facebook (let's not forget that Facebook should be only part of your overall social media strategy) - people will naturally want to share it, which means it will end up in the newsfeed eventually. If you authorize an app, your actions will automatically be posted. Create engaging content.
