Not many people WANT to buy banner ads because they would rather the pitch feel natural — they want the coverage to jive with the blogger. Excuse me, but did you bother to read the portfolio on my blog (one of the widgets in the footer)? Furthermore, ever hear of banner blindness? This is part of the problem.
