Amazon will give you a cut of everything a person someone buys within 24 hours of following your link. I often get commissions from people buying books, cosmetics, jewellery, and even nappies (diapers). Being an “affiliate” for a product means you recommend it to your readers and get a commission each time someone buys that product.

For example, I found talking to many bloggers who blog about spirituality of different faiths or politics that advertising doesn’t always work so well on some of those, particularly advertising with advertising networks like Google’s AdSense. I saw people buying books. I saw people buying cosmetics.

I knew Google took a cut, so I reached out directly to advertisers. $20 Added other advertising networks. I discovered this advertising network that existed called AdSense. AdSense is Google’s ad network. That wasn’t enough to buy coffee but it did drive a little bit of income into my blog.

Advertising networks, that was my first one. I had no idea, those first ebooks I didn’t know whether they would work, I didn’t know whether anyone would buy them, I didn’t even know whether my readers would get angry, some of them buying something that was already on the site. It wasn’t even enough to buy coffee and this is after years of building my audience. We’ve looked at direct ad sales, affiliate promotions, other advertising networks, I wrote a book. We’ve done software as well. Then, it went back—after a day I told them to stop—to about $1 a day, $1.50
