As CIOs and Chief Knowledge Officers bring tools that have been used on the Internet – blogs, wikis, microblogs, profiles – behind the firewall, they tend to expect the same results. We pause for 10 minutes, and when we return, the class asks questions or makes comments, to which Professor Jutras responds. The blogger (Professor Jutras) posts his ideas, occasionally throws in some editorial and takes some light, widget-fed microblogging (the current events some students share). I see this seminar as a blog.

Unless the person in question has earned social media deity status where even their most tiresome ramblings generate a high volume of comment and conversation, anyone attempting to seed a new conversation needs to earn the attention of their potential audience. Threaded Comments – one of the largest feature missing out on Twitter was the ability to actually respond to someone. Plurk introduced a comment system which helps create a conversational feel. Which can be used as – a part of – a checklist, when developing the ultimate microblogging application.
