To combat the “algorithm gamers and “power-users on the site, Digg has launched several measures to discourage the practice of blind digging where users digg hundreds of stories quickly in hopes that others will reciprocate. Digg: Diversify or Die. Blast. Share it. | ARI HERZOG JANUARY 20, 2011 How to Syndicate Your Blog to Digg It used to be taboo to promote your own blog articles on Digg but, since June 2010 when the social bookmarking site was improved, this is no longer frowned upon. Presuming you have an RSS feed for your blog, you merely have to log into your Digg account and follow the prompts to verify to Digg you are the owner of your blog. Social Media Digg RSSAre you an active Digger? | | | | | | | SOSHABLE SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 On Digg Today, Everything Went Better Than Expected The implosion of Digg is happening. Digg’s front page algorithm started resembling the old promotion algorithm. Familiar sources absent from the Digg front page for a week came back. Users are almost frolicking, submitting content to Digg rather than Reddit, Mixx, and anywhere else that would have them. Today, things almost seem normal for Digg. | SOSHABLE MARCH 14, 2011 The Future of Digg If you’d come up to me just a couple days ago and asked if Digg were going to survive for the long haul, I’d have sadly opined, “No.. By way of background, here’s the 50-cent version of my Digg story: Account since 2007, active user since early 2008. 130,847 diggs, 18,960 comments, 3,466 submissions and 1,054 popular stories. Digg sxsw | SOSHABLE JANUARY 11, 2011 Reddit vs Digg: A Case Study It needed to be very close to being equally popular on both Digg and Reddit, plus we needed the site owner to be willing to share their analytics data with us. The number of Reddit points was a little higher than the number of Diggs, but comments weren’t even close – over 3X as many on Reddit than Digg. Digg RedditLet’s take a look: The Numbers. | SOSHABLE JUNE 29, 2010 The New Digg: A Shift in the Balance of Power In lieu of getting into a debate about political analogies, I will make one clear statement: Digg has never been a true democracy and the new Digg does not change this. What “ The New Digg does do is redistribute the power that is currently in the hands of hundreds of users and a couple dozen websites and divides that power to more websites and much, much fewer users. | | | | | | | | | -
SOSHABLE | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2011 4 Things We Expect to See from Digg in 2012 As the year comes to a close, Digg is far from dead and is poised for a rebound in 2012. Here’s what we expect (hope) to see from the social news giant: Nothing else will have any meaning if Digg doesn’t turn a profit by the middle of the year. If there’s one reason Digg brought in Matt Williams as CEO, it was his understanding of profitability and advertising development. Digg is heading in the right direction with 2 additions from 2011. Larger sites like Mashable don’t even have Digg buttons on their stories anymore. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2010 The Digg Debacle in One Graph 6 publishers and 1 “celebrity have controlled the Digg Top News section for the past 3 days. This story over at Media Caffeine called Digg: The Broken Covenant (aka Selling Out to “The Man”) gives a clear indication that the shortcomings of Digg v4 go well beyond the bugs, beyond the fake positive press , and beyond the end of content curation. SOSHABLE | SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2009 7 Reasons Why I Won’t Tweet Diggbar Links Ever Again… Regardless of what anyone at Digg says, this was just wrong. Below is my version of the definition as it fits with what Digg has done: In social media, a bait and switch is a form of fraud in which the website putting forth the fraud lures in users by promoting their service as a portal to great content, then reveals to the user that the functionality has been changed but that substitute content is available. We were pulled in because it was easy to use, helped to promote strong content, and displayed the source to everyone who clicked on it, Digg user or not. Blast. MORE >> -

Back in March Soshable noted that 46% of the Digg front page is controlled by 50 websites. Major news sites have seen strong increases in social media referral traffic over the past couple years, and Digg continues to be among the top referrers. 403 14 dailymail.co.uk 387 15 telegraph.co.uk 403 21421 1.88% 18 independent.co.uk MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2011 Three Things Digg Needs to Survive: Buzz, Buzz, and Buzz No, Digg is not dead. As I posted on FastCompany last month, Digg has until May to get the help (which we’ve offered on multiple occasions free of charge) they need to get back on track or they will miss their last window of opportunity to keep from going the way of Propeller, MySpace, and Yahoo Buzz. If they do not get help, statements such as RIP Digg and Why Digg Failed will prove to be spot on assessments of a site that should have been skyrocketing in 2011. That helped to prompt the recent round of Digg-hate from the blogosphere. Not yet. Not yet. MORE >> -
