As one widget goes, another appears

Following the decision by Google to shutter Google Friend Connect , that widget will have disappeared, along with the 82 lovely people who chose to support the site via that method. But it’s reinforced my perception of how Google views social connections, and how that differs from Facebook and Twitter.

It can’t be a purely RSS play as we need gadgets/widgets for API only based services. about iGoogle shutting down – if Google can’t find it on the ‘net, nobody can – but I’m sure there are services nearly as good. Google Reader doesn’t have gadgets. Really grumpy !
