I like to subscribe to the blog in Google Reader and use the PostRank Chrome Extension to see the posts with the most social engagement and then send them some great headlines running along those lines. If the site wants writing samples first, be sure to send them only your best and ones that specifically fit their audience.

I heard this on Sunday and so just for fun I filtered every one of the newsletters and rss feeds that I never even bother to scan into a mailbox. I went into my Google reader and deleted every blog that hadn’t posted within the last 30 days. It took me about 15 minutes to unsubscribe from them all.

After Google Reader closed, I started using Feedly but recently switched to Netvibes in favour of their iGoogle style RSS reader – either are solid RSS readers that will help you keep on top of things. .
