Some of these are automated through RSS feeds (such as @Nytimes) and others are personal tweets, such as Shaquille O’neill (@THE_REAL_SHAQ).

Bloggers who are compensated can use the “nofollow&# tag within their outbound links to keep those links from being tagged by Google as paid content. The nofollow may well make that harder, but then again, if you are under contract I think it’s the buyer’s responsibility to track the postings of the paid blogger.

It certainly isn’t 100% accurate (though no analytics tool is) and the only downside in my opinion is the delay in reporting. Get Clicky Get Clicky is another free analytics tool, but this one reports analytics in real-time. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie.

The Nofollow attribute was first introduced by search engines to help stop spam on the web from ranking in search results. Naomi Dunford at Ittybiz doesn’t show her feed count (though it’s high) but instead shows the number of monthly visitors she gets in a nice graphic.
