How Meta Automation Rewrites the Rules for Advertisers

Jon Loomer

Are ad agencies no longer needed? Has Meta advertising become so turnkey that they could easily complete it internally? Or have the roles and responsibilities of an ad agency evolved — and are both companies and advertisers slow to adjust? These are questions we’re beginning to hear in our community , and it’s not surprising. Whether it’s due to the streamlining of Meta ad campaigns through the Advantage+ products or the assistance of AI, these rumblings were inevitable.

Facebook Profile Suffers Negative Attack

Is it possible to suffer a “negative” attack on a social media account or profile? Sure, it is. My main, Meta Verified personal Facebook profile , which is different than my Facebook Page , is currently suffering a “negative social media attack” over the past 24 hours. Customer Acquisition: Exclude Customers

Jon Loomer

A new feature spotted in Ads Manager… When creating a manual Sales campaign, you may see a section for Customer Acquisition in the ad set. Here’s how Meta describes it: Show your ads to new customers only. Define your existing customers in Audience to automatically exclude them from all ad sets that have Customer Acquisition turned on. If this sounds familiar, it’s similar to the Budget Cap for existing customers that you can apply for Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns.

Our First Fixathon: How We Squashed 44 Bugs in One Week

Buffer Social

Buffer, as a company, closes the last week of the year every year, and historically, as an engineering team, we’d do a code freeze for the week before we’re closed so nothing broke heading into the holidays. (Pretty smart of us.)  This year, we did something different, and it still worked out. We used the last week of the year as a “fixathon” for our whole engineering team.

Your Ad Agency Might Be In Trouble

Jon Loomer

I’ve seen advertisers asking a common question lately: “Why would businesses need an agency to manage their ads?” This is in response to suggesting broad targeting may actually work or that you don’t need more than one cold-targeting ad set per campaign. They’re worried that if they aren’t executing some super complex targeting strategy, they have no value.

Should You Duplicate Ad Sets when Scaling?

Jon Loomer

A popular scaling strategy involves duplicating an ad set and setting a higher budget for the duplicate. The approach has reasonable motivations. The thought is that this won’t restart learning on the original ad set (which could mean losing the performance you once had for good), and if the duplicate doesn’t work you can just shut it off. That said, ad sets with identical targeting and optimization could also hurt performance due to auction overlap — which is why creating unnecessary comp

Will Meta Remove All Interest Targeting?

Jon Loomer

To be clear, Meta hasn’t said that they’re doing this. BUT, the writing is on the wall. More detailed targeting options will be removed on January 15th. Whenever there’s an announcement about detailed targeting, it’s about Meta removing options rather than adding them. The trend is towards broad targeting. Advantage+ Shopping is a perfect example. The advertiser doesn’t provide any targeting inputs at all for these campaigns.

Define Your Business Category

Jon Loomer

It may be beneficial to define your Business Category in your ad account settings.
