With more than 90% of companies now using social media to find employees and 82% having a Facebook page , there’s no question that business use of social media has become commonplace. Look for other places where people are talking about your industry. But “use” and “success” are two different things.

As someone that previously worked at an internet marketing company, I was always amused when a client would become obsessed with their Facebook or Myspace profile (yes, this was a few years back) and ask us to dedicate an unreasonable amount of resources to managing it. As Michael Stelzner said at Blogworld, “You’re not a blogger, you’re a publisher!”. He had a popular blog, Free Pursuits, but focused on creating a legacy rather then just being a blogger. Marcus started a swimming pool company in 2001. He runs a popular blog, but I wouldn’t called him a blogger.
