For several years, I’ve been using Reader Avatars (also called Reader Profiles or Personas) on my blogs – and I’ve found them very effective and helpful. To create your first reader avatar, you’ll need to spend some time thinking and writing about a type of reader that you’re either attempting to reach or who is already reading your blog.

People engage with you more when you have your face as your avatar rather than an arbitrary picture or logo. Pro-active engagement is when you use monitoring and searches for industry specific posts, comments or tweets that you can either re-tweet, lets say on Twitter, or answer or make a comment on. Make it a point to answer or comment on the discussions. Search Squidoo , Slide Share , Flickr , YouTube ….find
