First, I’m going to say kudos to Apple for trying involve themselves in the world of social media. Let’s envision this scenario: a user has a support issue about an Apple product. Apple has no such protocol in place, and at this point, there is no engagement. I’m going to stop there, though.

Social media should not continue to give off the mindset that it’s easier to get things for free. Lisa Barone made a really good point last month when she said that her productivity went up as a result of respecting her time. Sadly, it absolutely has. I’ll Respect My Time. ’ How right he was! Probably not.

Well, for one, social media users — that is, users on social news sites such as Digg, Mixx, Reddit — are not particularly enthusiastic about the proliferation of marketers in their community. This is a huge challenge for someone who wants to sell their product using social media.

How do you get your news? In the past I have variously read newspapers, watched TV news bulletins, read news.bbc.co.uk If you use Twitter regularly, you’d see that it wins as a social news site that provides instantaneous news — at least of that caliber. and obviously more recently sites such as Digg.

According to Baloun, Mark Zuckerberg is passionate about his product and wants to play a key role in cultivating that community without losing the control. The Apple Students Group is a great way for Apple to market its own products, and over the summer, it offered free songs through iTunes. Answers Yahoo!

It was taken the night of January 28, 2008 (approximately 11PM EST): While Digg typically allowed stories to hit the front page within 80-120 votes (the latter being more rare than normal), it’s now requiring almost double the number. After seeing how it panned out, I have to say that I’m not impressed.

When Weezer came out with Pork and Beans in 2008, the band’s music video introduced a completely different concept with characters that were incredibly familiar. Genuine You don’t always have to engage in expensive video production to promote your wares, nor as the marketer do you have to create the video yourself.
