Then in a second reminder Google made it clear that they do not want sponsored content indexed in Google News, and sites that mix in promotional articles with their regular news content could be excluded from Google News entirely. For those articles only the first warning (do not let sponsor links pass PageRank) applies.

You could simply buy directory links, sponsor blog posts, and even have Wordpress themes developed which included a link to your site in the footer. The top results for most keyphrases are either a Wikipedia page, a site that is very focused around community, or a clear leader in an industry.

In February of 2011, Google released the Panda update that took rankings away from websites with low-quality content and sites with more advertising than content. Links can do this regardless of whether or not they contain the “nofollow” attribute, contain redirects, come from a site with a high PageRank , and so on.

I said from day one that I would do a case study of this sites’ traffic for one year, and that’s what I’ve done. I promised that I would write more articles going forward, which I think has helped a lot with resulting traffic increase. You could say that we prefer signal over noise.

I like to focus on building search engine traffic to my sites because once you have rankings you can usually sustain them with little effort and the traffic they send is very targeted. Some success is from sites I purchased which were ranking on the first few pages of Google and I built some great links to get them on the first page.
