The routers that sit in front of the server farm that houses the Twitter WEB and DATABASE servers does that load balancing for the requests that come into Twitter. They notice that servers 1,5,8, and 10 are busy so they send your request for your Twitter page to server 2. That DID NOT happen today.

I think one reason is because they don’t fully understand the depth and breadth of usefulness Twitter can offer. For most of the past 12 months, pre-Oprah, Twitter has languished below 30 percent retention. I am not surprised as one of Twitter’s “problems&# is that is so easy to use. It appears so accessible.

I use Twitter but have been too busy this past week to even notice their recent round of outages. Obviously we don’t require the resources that Twitter does. I tend to agree and would love to see Twitter re-tooled on a more stable platform such as PHP. So far, Twitter does not seem to want for money.
