Metaphorically, an individual may engage in a learning process that is either more acquisitional or participatory (Sfard, 1998). The artefacts operated upon through PLEs include the digital resources and references with which individuals wish to engage presently and perhaps recall in the future. A PLE could be implemented as a mashup.
