I thought Google had added a nofollow algorithm for article directories and that it wouldn’t count those links because the idea is to get your links from publishers who use your articles rather than to rely on links from the directories. I’m actually writing this sentence (not the post) on March 11th 2010 sitting on a feed count of 4,717 subscribers (I’ll explain this later). My feed jumped from 8,500 to over 11,500 according to Feedburner. to the RSS feed. As for Feedburner: every day my feed count changes by 1-2k. Here’s how.

First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. Not like a new site or social media thingy, but just a network.

Their list posts have gone hot on StumbleUpon and they may even have had a big-blog mention and suddenly their feed count looks impressive. You could even make a case study out of how much you were able to donate from this site for ABC charity (or whatever organization you deem appropriate, if you personally don’t need the money).
