When you publish new content you want to know if it’s getting you backlinks, because if it’s not, then all the hard work you’ve put into it didn’t really pay off. I’ve already shared how I personally became a much better writer (though I don’t rate myself that highly) and now I want to get into the specifics of how to create compelling content. Similarly, if I see content posted on Facebook or retweeted on Twitter, that same headline will determine whether I click through to your website.

Adding Content to Your Site As I wrote in my post on How to Dominate Google , search engines generally tend to follow people. Long-tail Automation To really get a site going I like to add a lot of content to it. I outsource this process and while you certainly don’t have to produce that much content, I do find that it helps.

We have reached a point in late 2010 where the work required to generate traffic for a normal blog via search engines is much greater than that required to generate an equal amount of traffic via social media. I had an opportunity to put some content on the website of a very large media brand.
