At the time, bloggers were reliant on RSS subscribers more than ever and many of them used Feedburner to track how many people subscribed to their feed. After Google’s acquisition of Feedburner in 2007 they provided very little in the way of updates or support the following years.

My feed jumped from 8,500 to over 11,500 according to Feedburner. At first I assumed it was a bug, but it has stayed this way for over a week so I’ll assume everything is working as it should (Feedburner usually drops, not increases). As for Feedburner: every day my feed count changes by 1-2k.

Yet, if I notice a “11,652 subscribers&# feedburner chicklet before clicking the close tab, it’s far more likely to make me stick around. Where my first one has nearly 10x the traffic, it doesn’t have nearly the same amount of interaction from the community. I really appreciate every post you write.

With over 4 million RSS subscribers according to Feedburner, it’s clear they’re not struggling. I mean, the history is there attached to the author/brand in the space they’re in and it would seem their page rank, traffic stats and online community created are their social proof. Yet, they are being surpassed.
