I also have to believe that there would be value to advertisers in a “true” list to be able to gauge advertising opportunities on blogs. It’s inspired me to push myself to continue writing, and if I could somehow crack this list, I know I would be motivated to see my blog work it’s way up the rankings.

I was a few years into my tenure at Microsoft Advertising, and had fallen into an amazing group of dudes at work…The COT…or circle of trust if you will. And at the very least, celebrate not just my photo, but all the amazing ones that went along with it. The year was 2007, and it was a cool, brisk Autumn day like many others.

It gives Groupon the ability to showcase more advertisers each day, without breaking the formula too much. The idea is to give consumers deals that are more tailored to their interests, but more importantly (in Groupon’s case), the ability to sign on more businesses. It will be interesting to see just how well the implementation works.

I can tolerate some small, targeted advertising in exchange for using a tremendous tool like Twitter, but we’ve certainly reached a point where we need some tools to better manage Twitter. What I’m saying is that as an end user, I should have access to tools that allow me to control whether I see those messages or not.

Companies like Starbucks , Dell , even my previous employer Microsoft Advertising , all do community incredibly well and it has paid off for all of them many times over. While community is a hot buzz word these days, it’s still quite a ways before most businesses truly embrace the idea.
