For example, just the other day I stumbled upon an Apple press release from 2003. Using one or two of these methods may work in getting your news, but I’d say that a healthy combination of blogs and these social networks ends up giving me what I want. Sorry, guys, it’s five years later.

A few months ago, Brian Solis talked about an off-topic pitch about a social network for plants. Somehow, I think nature lovers would be more interested in socializing shrubbery.) There’s no effort in adding thousands of email addresses to an address book, performing a mail merge, and sending off a generic press release.

Effectively, they’re porting their press release information to the wide open, and perhaps going a little more granular by featuring content specific to elements of iTunes. First, I’m going to say kudos to Apple for trying involve themselves in the world of social media.

Some blogs cover software only by being voted upon by the user , for example, and your press release won’t even fly for that category. If the post does not allow commenting, send a relevant press release to the editorial team showing that you have done your research and understand what the blog is looking for.

Kirtsy and Other Niche Social Networks. Did you know there’s a social news website catered to women called Kirtsy ? I think that where we are will continue to evolve, but we’re seeing that face-to-face connections have a role in social media marketing as well. You need to keep your current customers happy.

They’re tasked with contacting bloggers about different initiatives, sending out story ideas and “press releases&# (hopefully with a social component, since those are preferred by many bloggers). Yet I get from 2 to 10 press releases per week and several PR inquiries per month.
