About 6 years ago when I was still at Microsoft, I made the jump from whatever Microsoft friendly phone I was using at the time to the iPhone. I was insanely jealous of my Apple fanboy co-worker and his. Let’s be honest, the iPhone was a game changer, and me being the gadget freak, I needed to have one. Google proved me only partly wrong in this though, with their latest release of Jellybean and the Galaxy Nexus, yet I still find myself missing my iPhone. Yet I still find myself missing my iPhone. Google will always have the masses, very similar to the approach Microsoft took in the Desktop market (until Microsoft figures out the mobile market and competes with Google).

As a result, the sales of the Google Android OS-based smartphones have surpassed the sales of the Microsoft Windows Mobile-based handsets around the world. But as 4 time owner of the Apple iPhone I still don’t see a reason to switch. As a brand manager I would feel constrained by the AT&T brand and be lobbing internally at Apple to set the iPhone free before it’s too late.

From the wood paneling and white walls to the merchandising and how the staff is dressed, it was clear to me that Microsoft wanted to feel like Apple. Kudos for Microsoft. noticed some very interesting things this time though, at my very first Microsoft conference. The Press just aren't converted yet, and despite Microsoft's new focus on marketing as Steve Ballmer committed to today, they have some work to do. My neighbors all had iPhones. I saw iPads. And if they don't love Mac, they love their iPhone. Myself included. They love Mac.
