Dear Google, You started off so very nice with Google Plus. Maybe not as big as my man-crush on Twitter, but at least a decent platform that could supplant Facebook, which I am not a giant fan of. While I may interact with Mr. Shri on Twitter every now and then, I would not call that a broad network in the country.

While there’s still a place for Yelp in my heart, I’ve found lately that I much prefer using Twitter and Foursquare to find new places and things to do here in Boston. and even then it’s usually only a Google search that leads me to visit Yelp. Do you need to own your community?

So to me, community can happen anywhere from a corner sandlot to a Facebook group or weekly Twitter chat or Subreddit on kittens. While there are inherent risks in building a community on a rented piece of grass (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Humans are a curious species that will find places to connect.
