Once I published the post, the registry would scan the feed and see the new content with the claim code. After 20 minutes of scratching my head and several automated email messages telling me I was unsuccessfully claiming my blog with Technorati (one of the larger blog registries out there), I learned the secret.

Over on my city council blog , for instance, I published a post on February 23 with the meeting agenda for February 28 — and, because I subscribe to my own blogs, I blinked when that post was received on March 5. Response times went downhill and bloggers like me got fed up with inaccurate metrics and delayed delivery. Unacceptable.

Whenever something newsworthy breaks, all four sites (and others) typically fight each other to be the first to publish that article. There is no denial that Mashable articles are trendy and to the point, but so are articles on Techcrunch , ReadWriteWeb , and the Business Insider. Faster loading pages.
